DIRT
DIRT
Dance Theater Workshop NY, NY - 1992
A play with six characters - all former now permanent New Yorkers - recently dead and buried in the same corner of a Brooklyn cemetery.
On a stage set with six piles of dirt, the cast includes 9 year old Korean American twins, a 65 year old African-American man, an 89 year old Ukrainian Catholic woman, an upper middle class 67 year old white woman who is the mother of a 40 year old lesbian. Florid genealogical ramblings, incest, memories of working in a Lower Eastside hat factory and the best baseball game ever played (Mazeroski 1960), DIRT's sharp edged stereotypes cut into social issues to reveal a glimpse of what we may be able to do together at the end of this 20th century.
